The Big Snip: BBQ Bash - Thank You -- Tuesday February 24th, 2026 We truly cannot put into words how overwhelming the support was for this project! The love shown to us — and to the dogs — at our BBQ dinner sale meant more than we can say. We honestly weren’t quite prepared for the incredible turnout… but we’ll definitely be ready next year! A huge THANK YOU to Derrick with Dukes for the delicious BBQ, Sheron with Zaxby’s, and Cynthia with Walmart for helping provide much-needed supplies. And to all of our amazing bakers and prep crew — what an awesome team! There are days in rescue that feel incredibly hard… and then there are days that remind you that you’re not alone — that there is an ARMY standing behind you. Yesterday was one of those days. Because of YOU, we raised $1,260, and every dollar will go directly to our Spay/Neuter Project. From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for believing in this mission. Afternoon with Paw Pups: Levi -- Thursday February 19th, 2026 Levi stole hearts during a special visit to the Calhoun Library, where children gathered for a Valentine’s-themed activity celebrating adoptable dogs. From the moment he arrived, Levi happily melted into the kids’ arms, soaking up hugs and attention as if he’d known them forever. Throughout the event, Levi calmly walked around the room, offering gentle companionship while the children colored their Paw Angels Valentine’s Day cards—each one featuring dogs currently available for adoption through Paw Angels Rescue. Levi proved to be the perfect helper, patiently sitting with the kids, posing for photos, and encouraging plenty of smiles and laughter. Adding to the excitement, Miss Flint River stopped by to meet Levi, making the day even more memorable for everyone involved. Levi remained calm and kind throughout the visit, clearly enjoying every moment—especially the extra treats that came his way. By the end of the event, it was clear Levi had made a lasting impression, turning a simple coloring activity into a heartwarming afternoon filled with compassion, community, and puppy love.
Afternoon with Paw Pups: Storm -- Thursday January 29th, 2026 The Gordon County Library had a very special visitor this week — Storm , our four-legged reading buddy and professional attention magnet! From the moment he walked in, Storm was literally the center of attention… and he loved every second of it. As kids worked on multiple homework assignments, Storm made his rounds like a tiny furry supervisor, offering moral support, smiles, and plenty of calm comfort. Before long, he was surrounded by kids giving him nonstop pets — and Storm was happily soaking up every bit of love like it was his full-time job. Storm also took his library duties seriously. He inspected the books (quality control is important!) and made sure everything passed his official sniff test. Then, he headed over to our donation drop box and proudly helped pick up the generous donations left for the rescue. Storm would like to send a big, tail-wagging THANK YOU to everyone who donated and helped support our dogs. Your kindness truly makes a difference, and we’re so grateful for this amazing community! Want to meet Storm for yourself?
Community Assistance Program (C.A.P) -- Monday January 26th, 2026 In 2025, we have continued to track the distribution of supplies throughout the community. These supplies have supported families during difficult times, provided nourishment & proper shelter for dogs, and helped families keep their pets in their homes. Without this program, many families would struggle to provide proper care for their dogs. This program is extremely important to Gordon County, as without it, many more dogs would be at risk. Spay - 44 Neuter - 17 Adult Dog Food - 178 Bags Puppy Food - 31 Bags Pup Date: Walker & Catoosa (Cat) -- Tuesday January 20th, 2026 Walker and Catoosa came to us from Tunnel Hill as two very shut-down dogs, survivors of a heartbreaking animal cruelty case involving 32 dogs. When they first arrived, both were facing significant health challenges, but thanks to time, care, and patience, they have overcome so much and are now healthy and safe. Catoosa (Cat) does have ongoing medical needs due to the long-term neglect she endured. She is battling severe heartworms, has no teeth, and struggles with a skin condition. Despite all of this, Cat is incredibly loving. She adores her toys, cozy bedding, and especially her sweaters that help keep her warm. She enjoys gently trotting around the yard and never turns down a treat. While she’s still a bit shy with new people, her confidence grows more every day. Walker has truly amazed us. At first, we couldn’t even make eye contact with him, and he wouldn’t stand near us at all. Today, he has two dog friends he plays with every day, goes on walks (still a little scary for him, but he’s gaining confidence), and happily plays with toys—something he once avoided completely. He now enjoys interacting with people too and has shown us just how silly, funny, and joyful he really is. Their journeys are a powerful reminder of what love, patience, and compassion can do.
Welcome Phoenix! -- Tuesday January 13th, 2026 Welcome to the Paw Angels Family, Phoenix! This brave little girl came to us fighting for her life. Phoenix was dangerously close to becoming septic after suffering a severe gash from a dog attack that went untreated for days. The property she was on had multiple dogs kept and fed outside with no containment or separation. Fights over food began to occur, and Phoenix—already injured from a previous incident—took the worst of it. We later learned she was injured on New Year’s Day. A plea for help was posted that Friday, and we immediately responded. Sadly, her owner at the time refused to take her to the vet, even with our offer of financial assistance. It wasn’t until days later that a neighbor stepped in and got her to a vet. By then, Phoenix was severely anemic, battling a serious infection, and on the verge of sepsis. She went six long days without veterinary care—much of what she endured could have been prevented with earlier treatment. We knew Phoenix could not return to that property, where she would have been kept outside and placed back into the same dangerous situation. Thankfully, her owner agreed to surrender her, and as of yesterday, Phoenix is officially a Paw Angels girl The photos show her journey: how she looked when first injured, the condition of her wound when it was finally cleaned by the vet, and the progress she has made as of yesterday. She still has a long road to recovery ahead. While it’s not yet certain if her leg can be saved, things are moving in the right direction, and we remain hopeful. This sweet girl needs your prayers. Due to Phoenix’s sudden intake, along with another foster dog returning to our care, we are in desperate need of FOSTERS to help us make space. We also need donations to help cover Phoenix’s veterinary care. Her initial treatment was $700, and due to the severity of her wounds and pain, she required hospitalization for several days at $100 per day. While surgery will come later, her current vet bill is expected to be around $1,100 when we pick her up today. Thank you for standing with Phoenix and helping us give her the safe, loving future she deserves

Paw-tastic Adoption News: Ginger -- Saturday January 3rd, 2026 We are thrilled to share that Ginger has been adopted! After three years in rescue, Ginger has finally found her perfect forever home. She was just six months old when Paw Angels welcomed her into our care, and during her time with us, she truly stole hearts everywhere she went. From being featured in Calhoun Magazine to becoming a fan favorite at the Gordon County Library, Ginger made a lasting impression on so many. We couldn’t be happier for her as she begins this wonderful new chapter surrounded by love.
Paws & Relax: Ozzy -- Friday January 2nd, 2026 Ozzy is doing wonderfully with his foster fur-ends and settling in beautifully. He loves spending time playing in the yard, burning off energy, and enjoying the fresh air. Ozzy has been staying clean, making no messes, and showing what a great listener he is. He absolutely adores extra snuggles and cuddle time, and his playful side shines when he’s surrounded by toys—especially when he gets to share them with his fur-ends. Ozzy has truly been an excellent house guest and a joy to have around. Click here to see Ozzys profile!
Paws & Relax: Juniper & Cowboy -- Sunday December 28th, 2025 Not one, but two lucky dogs are enjoying the comforts of a foster home. Cowboy and Juniper have recently traded kennel life for cozy couches and are quickly mastering the art of living in a home environment. The pair has been thriving—walking well together, showing off their festive Christmas sweaters over the holidays, and happily snuggling on the couch. They’ve also proven to be wonderful house guests, getting along beautifully with their two foster feline friends. While Cowboy and Juniper are not a bonded pair, they were fortunate enough to be placed in the same foster home and have been doing great together. Both dogs are now ready to find their forever homes.
Sampson Gets His Wings Back -- Friday December 19th, 2025 It is with heavy hearts that Paw Angels says goodbye to Sampson, a beloved member of our family who gained his wings following surgery. Sampson developed a mass on his neck, and our team did everything possible to remove as much of it as they could in hopes of stopping the cancer from progressing. During surgery, another mass was discovered on his spleen, believed to be hemangiosarcoma. Despite everyone’s best efforts, complications arose, and there was nothing more that could be done. Sampson passed peacefully, surrounded by care and love. Though often mistaken for older due to the gray around his face, Sampson was full of life and spirit. He was a spunky “old” man who loved playing with other dogs, rolling on his back in the sun, and running around with toys. He was also known for tattling on the other dogs—always fussing at someone and keeping everyone in line. Above all, Sampson was sweet, lovable, and full of personality. His presence brought joy, laughter, and warmth to everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all of us at Paw Angels, but his spirit will forever remain in our hearts. Run free, sweet Sampson.
New Program: Off The Chain -- Tuesday December 16th, 2025 A new community-driven program called Off the Chain has officially launched with a mission to improve the lives of dogs currently living on tie-outs by building small, safe, fenced-in yards that allow them freedom of movement, safety, and dignity. Across the area, many dogs spend their lives tethered outdoors with limited shelter and mobility. While these dogs often have caring owners, a lack of resources can make it difficult to provide proper fencing. For some dogs, this will create some comfort until a new permanent home is found. Off the Chain was created to bridge that gap by offering hands-on assistance and materials to build secure enclosures where dogs can move freely, exercise, and rest safely for the time being. The program is currently collecting donations of materials and supplies including:
All donated items will go directly towards building fenced areas for dogs who urgently need relief from constant tethering. Our goal is simple, we want to give dogs the freedom they deserve while working alongside owners to create safer, more humane conditions or to give the dogs comfort until a new home is found. Community members are encouraged to support the effort through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word. Every contribution - whether large or small - helps move one more dog off the chain and into a safer space. Those interested in donating materials, funds, or time are encouraged to reach out to the Off the Chain program for more information. Together, the community can make a lasting difference - one yard, one dog, and one family at a time. Welcome Athens! -- Friday November 21st, 2025 Paw Angels Rescue is proud to welcome Athens, a white bulldog mix, into the family of rescued dogs. Athens came to the rescue after an animal control facility reached out for urgent help, hoping to give this sweet boy a second chance. Upon arrival, the Paw Angels team quickly arranged for Athens to receive medical care, including the removal of several masses. While tests confirmed that he is battling cancer, the rescue is committed to giving him the best care possible and ensuring he receives ongoing treatment. Despite everything he’s been through, Athens’ spirit remains bright. He enjoys peaceful walks with his favorite volunteer, Johnny, and loves spending time playing with toys in his kennel. Paw Angels Rescue says Athens has already touched the hearts of everyone who has met him, and they’re dedicated to making sure he knows nothing but comfort, compassion, and love from here on out.
Fall Family Fun Day -- Sunday November 16th, 2025 Paw Angels Rescue is celebrating a major milestone this week after officially reaching its $5,000 fundraising goal through its week-long Donation Marathon. The rescue organization extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated, shared support, and took part in the effort. Throughout the marathon, Paw Angels Rescue hosted fun raffles and shared engaging videos on its Facebook page to help raise money for its Community Help Program, which provides food and essential care to dogs in need. The marathon wrapped up with a lively Fall Family Fun Day, bringing the community together for one final push. The event featured food and refreshments, dance performances from local dance schools, and a bustling lineup of vendors for families to shop from. Organizers say the turnout exceeded expectations and helped carry them across the finish line. “It was a fun day, and we can’t thank everyone enough for all their support,” the rescue team shared. Thanks to the community’s generosity, Paw Angels Rescue will continue providing critical assistance to dogs who need it most. A Special Birthday Paw-ty: Lucy -- Tuesday November 11th, 2025 Paw Angels Rescue wouldn’t exist without one very special dog — Lucy. Eleven years ago, Lucy was facing euthanasia because she was terrified of people and deemed “unadoptable.” But everything changed when she met her forever mom, who saw past the fear and showed her what real love could do. That love not only saved Lucy’s life — it inspired the founding of Paw Angels, a rescue dedicated to helping dogs just like her find safety, healing, and family. Today, Lucy is celebrating her 11th birthday surrounded by love. She’s known as the sweetest soul — gentle, affectionate, and friendly with everyone she meets. She adores her little brother, Bo, and her Nana, who stops by daily (always with treats, of course). In her younger years, Lucy loved hanging out in the dance studio with her mom, greeting students and soaking up attention. Now, she spends her golden years curled up on the couch, watching the volunteers she inspired continue her legacy of compassion. Lucy’s journey from fear to love reminds everyone at Paw Angels why they do what they do — because every dog deserves the chance to become someone’s angel. Pup Date: Ozzy -- Wednesday November 5th, 2025 Ozzy has been absolutely shining during his stay at the kennel! This happy-go-lucky pup has stolen everyone’s hearts with his playful energy and lovable personality. He’s a social butterfly who enjoys playdates with other dogs, adores his toys, and listens like a pro — he already knows his basic commands and loves to show off his good manners. Ozzy is also famous around here for his “butt scratch dance” — give him a good scratch, and he’ll reward you with an adorable little twerk! When he’s not dancing, he’s cuddled up close, soaking in all the love he can get. During his recent weekend foster stay, Ozzy was the perfect guest — sweet, gentle, and full of love. He is currently undergoing treatment for heartworms, but don’t worry — we’ll continue to provide his heartworm care while he’s in foster or even after he’s adopted. Ozzy is the total package: smart, affectionate, playful, and full of heart. Whoever brings this boy home is in for a lifetime of laughter, love, and happy tail wags! Click here to see more about Ozzy

Paw Paw the Pup Charms Seniors at Calhoun Center Visit -- Wednesday October 1st, 2025 Paw Paw, a sweet-natured senior dog with a heart as big as his paws, paid a special visit to the Calhoun Senior Center this week — and he was an instant hit. With a wagging tail and an impressive set of tricks, Paw Paw strutted his stuff for the crowd, showing off his sit, shake, and high-five skills before melting hearts when he rolled over for belly rubs. He spent the morning visiting with each resident, happily accepting pets, posing for photos, and soaking up all the attention. "He was such a good boy," said one staff member. "You could see how much joy he brought to everyone here — and how much he loved every minute of it." As he wandered the center, Paw Paw "told" his story with help from his handlers — about how he's looking for a forever home or a loving foster, and how he still has plenty of love (and tail wags) to give. They also shared stories about his doggy friends still waiting for homes, too. But it was Paw Paw’s big finale — flopping onto his back and flashing his belly — that truly stole the show. Laughter, smiles, and lots of “awws” filled the room. After a big morning of socializing, Paw Paw was so tuckered out he slept the whole car ride home. His caretakers hope this visit will help spark interest in adopting or fostering Paw Paw, who’s patiently waiting to find a loving home where he can keep spreading joy — one belly rub at a time. Anyone interested in giving this good boy a second chance can contact us to set up a meet and greet!
Thank you, Rocky! -- Monday September 29th, 2025 We extend our gratitude to Rocky, a dedicated employee at the restaurant, who first brought this situation to our attention. Around 8 AM on a Wednesday, he texted us, sharing that he had witnessed a family leave food out for a dog before driving away. The dog chased after them down the ramp. Rocky, positioned at the top of the hill in the parking lot, had glanced down just in time to see what unfolded. Unfortunately, by the time he reached the spot where the family had abandoned the dog, they were too far away to capture any license plate details. A custodian also observed the family allowing their children to play with the dog before leaving him behind.
For hours, the dog circled the area, waiting for his family to return. Throughout the day, Rocky made multiple attempts to earn the dog’s trust. After his shift ended, he drove from Rome to the rescue to collect a live trap. Once Rocky set up the trap, he patiently waited until the dog was caught.
In a fortunate turn of events, one of our volunteers, Charlie, happened to stop by with his truck, allowing us to load the trap for transport. Charlie and his family then drove the truck to the rescue, where we ensured the dog’s safety overnight.
We would also like to thank Gordon Animal Control for facilitating the dog's transition to a rescue the following morning.
Rocky’s actions were truly commendable—something many people might not have done. Without his commitment to helping this vulnerable dog, we can only imagine what could have happened.

Catoosa, GA Cruelty Case: Walker, Catoosa, & Murray -- Thursday August 28th, 2025 https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/dozens-dogs-rescued-major-catoosa-county-animal-cruelty-crackdown We were called to assist in rescuing three dogs from an animal cruelty situation in Tunnel Hill. On the premises, were 32 dogs to provide veterinary care, which were then transported to Murray, Walker Animal Control, and the Atlanta Humane Society. After examining the three dogs we agreed to take, were moved to Gordon Animal Hospital where they received further veterinary care and medications for their condition. Following their vet visit, we discovered they were suffering from fleas and ticks, skin issues, and severe undernourishment; the puppy weighed just 2 pounds. Additionally, they were found to have hookworms, tapeworms, and other ailments. We also learned that the two older dogs have Ehrlichia, a disease transmitted by infected ticks and that the female dog is heartworm positive. Though they face a challenging recovery journey, they are growing stronger each day. The puppy, named Murray, is gaining weight; Walker, the white and tan male, is still quite reserved but is making gradual progress, while Catoosa, the white and black female, is exploring her surroundings and enjoying time outdoors.
